Accurate Damage Documentation. Fast.
When a vessel sustains damage, the priority is an accurate technical record — precise geometry, documented extent, and structured data that supports repair specification and insurance assessment without delay.

The Problem with Manual Assessment
Traditional damage assessment relies on visual inspection and manual measurement — contested by multiple parties, slow to complete, and often imprecise at the scale engineering decisions require.
What Survey-Grade Scanning Delivers
Survey-grade 3D laser scanning captures a precise spatial record of the damage — geometry, extent and dimensional deviation from nominal — without contact with damaged structures, in a fraction of the time.
One Record, Multiple Parties
The resulting dataset gives owners, insurers, repairers and engineers a single agreed technical record — eliminating measurement disputes and scope ambiguity that extend repair programmes and inflate costs.
The Technical Record of What Happened.
Damage Geometry & Extent
Precise 3D capture of the damaged zone — hull deformation, structural distortion, breach geometry, collapsed or displaced structure. Measurable, navigable and dimensionally accurate.
Deviation from Nominal
Measured departure from the vessel’s original geometry — dents, buckles, set-in plating, displaced frames — expressed as dimensional deviations. Provides the data repair specifications are written from.
Adjacent Structure Documentation
Zones adjacent to the primary damage captured to establish the limit of affected structure — critical for repair scope definition and avoiding missed damage at the survey stage.
Access & Constraint Documentation
Clearances, access restrictions, obstructions and working space constraints in the repair area documented spatially — so repair teams know what they’re working with before mobilisation.
Pre- and Post-Repair Record
Where access is available before and after repair, the survey provides a dimensional baseline and a post-repair verification record confirming the structure has been returned to within tolerance.
Annotated Deliverable Set
Damage marked up on the 3D model or point cloud with annotation notes, dimensional callouts and zone referencing — structured for direct use by repair yards, adjusters and owners.
Mobilise, Capture, Document, Deliver.
Briefing & Scoping
We establish the damage location, access conditions, urgency timeline and required deliverable format before mobilising. Where time is short, scoping is done by phone — we don’t slow the process.
On-Site Survey
Survey-grade 3D laser scanning of the damaged zone and adjacent structure — on the quay, in dry dock or under active repair. We work around access restrictions and insurance assessor visits.
Processing & Documentation
Data registered and processed into the agreed deliverable set — point cloud, 3D model, dimensional deviation report and annotated markup. Structured clearly for use by multiple parties simultaneously.
Delivery & Follow-On
Deliverables handed over with a clear index. Where the survey surfaces an engineering scope — repair specification, structural assessment, return-to-service review — Isca carries that work forward.
One Survey Record. Multiple Stakeholders.
Survey and Documentation — Precisely Defined.
What Isca Delivers
Survey-grade 3D capture and dimensional documentation of damage extent. The precise technical record — point cloud, deviation data and annotated deliverables — that repair specifications and insurance assessments are built from.
Structural Assessment
Structural integrity assessment and class certification sit within our Naval Architecture scope, and can be engaged where the survey identifies a need. They are separate to the survey and documentation service.
Not Sure What You Need?
Contact us and we’ll tell you plainly what the project requires. Most damage assessment projects start with a brief conversation about the vessel, the incident and what the data needs to support.
