Survey & Digital Twin

Your Asset. Accurately Recorded. Always Current.

A vessel information management survey turns your asset into a precise, queryable digital record — accurate geometry, systems layout, and spatial data captured in one survey and maintained as the vessel evolves.

The Case for VIM

A Vessel’s Drawings Age From Day One.

01

The Problem

From the moment a vessel enters service, the gap between its drawings and its actual configuration begins to widen. Modifications, repairs and retrofits rarely make it back onto the record set.

02

What VIM Does

A survey-grade 3D scan of the as-built vessel creates a high-fidelity geometric record — hull envelope, compartments, machinery spaces, pipe runs, structural members — captured at millimetre accuracy.

03

The Living Record

The digital twin functions as a live engineering database. Designers work from it directly. Retrofit teams model against it. Owners use it to manage the asset across its full service life.

Deliverables

What We Capture and How It’s Delivered.

01

As-Built Point Cloud

Full-vessel or zone-specific 3D point cloud. Registered, georeferenced, delivered in E57, RCP or project-specified format. Navigable and measurable without specialist software.

02

Geometric Digital Twin

Survey data processed into a structured 3D model — hull envelope, decks, compartments, bulkheads, major structural members. Delivered in agreed CAD/BIM format: Revit, Navisworks, STEP, or custom.

03

Systems & Equipment Spatial Record

Machinery spaces, pipe runs, electrical distribution and HVAC routes captured spatially. Provides engineers with accurate installation context before any design work begins.

04

Compartment Documentation

Individual compartment surveys with accurate dimensional data — headroom, clear widths, access routes, structural offsets. Critical for retrofit feasibility and modifications planning.

05

Dimensional & Deviation Reports

Measured deviations from nominal — structural distortion, settled components, post-repair geometry. Delivered as annotated reports or model markup for class or insurance use.

06

Maintained Digital Twin

For ongoing asset management, the digital twin is updated following modifications or inspections — maintaining an accurate single source of truth across the vessel’s service life.

Our Process

From Mobilisation to Delivered Data.

01

Scope & Planning

We agree survey zones, required outputs, access constraints and delivery format before mobilisation. For complex vessels we issue a brief survey strategy document so all parties are aligned before work begins.

02

On-Site Survey

Survey-grade 3D laser scanning carried out on-vessel — in dry dock, alongside, afloat, or under active maintenance. We work around the vessel’s schedule. Confined spaces and machinery spaces included as standard.

03

Processing & Modelling

Scan data is registered, cleaned and processed to the agreed deliverable specification. Point clouds are structured; models built to the level of detail required — from basic hull geometry to full compartment BIM.

04

Delivery & Handover

Data delivered in agreed formats with a clear index. Where the data feeds downstream engineering — naval architecture, retrofit design, systems integration — Isca can carry that work forward directly.
